Masters Track & Field
Chair Report - March, 2010 - Gary Snyder
"Building the base, growing the future."
I returned from Canada around noon time on Sunday March 7th after a very Ďawardingí experience. For the full story check out Bob Wienerís excellent coverage here:
, but the short version is the USA dominated by a large margin.
Our Team managers, Phil Greenwald and Mary Rosodo were terrific, attending daily team manager meetings, conducting USA team meetings and being everywhere to answer our questions and reduce anxiety.
The addition of physiotherapy support was a real learning experience with the most difficult aspect getting the practitioners into Canada with out a hassle at the border. Both Drs Elliot and Summers were absolutely terrific. The athletes loved the support and we will include the support for all future WMA meets.
USA Indoor Championships
The 4x200 relay will be contested at the Masters Indoor Championships in Boston. The relays will be the last running event on Saturday and will be an exhibition event, non scoring, no medals awarded, non club teams welcome and no entry fee required. Relay sign up will be at the meet. No pre registration.

The detail schedule should be posted by close of business today here:
Athletes Meeting including Athlete of the Year Recognition.
The athletes meeting will be at the meet hotel which is the Doubletree at 6:30 PM beginning with light refreshments. Bob Weiner has again secured the Presidential Suite for our meeting so get your questions together.
Iíd be remiss if I didnít comment on the recent suspension of Val Barnwell. By now you have read information and comments from the blog world so let me set the record straight as far as my involvement was concerned.
I had no previous information regarding the suspension prior to arriving in Kamloops. Within thirty minutes of arriving at the indoor track on Monday, March 1st, I was asked to attend a meeting chaired by Stan Perkins the WMA President. Stan explained what had transpired in the two days leading up to the meet and Valís suspension. He requested that we make Val available to meet with the WMA leaders and asked me to join them. I declined and said the matter was strictly a WMA issue and no one at USATF had notified me as of that time. So it went.
I spoke to Val directly after his meeting with Perkins and offered my assistance. He said he was ok
I will pursue testing at all USA Championships beginning in 2011. Iíve been sitting on the fence until now mostly due to cost concerns but the time for new direction has arrived.
See you on the indoor track!
