International Competitive Opportunities Stipend

USATF will continue a program that was launched in 2010, which was designed to provide direct financial assistance to a limited number of athletes, to assist them with the cost of travel, housing and training while competing internationally during the spring/summer. The primary purpose of the grant is to help athletes defray travel expenses not covered by meet directors and/or to assist them with the financial burden of securing housing and/or training sites. Priority for this funding was given to those athletes who would not otherwise have the opportunity to participate or would need to devote a great deal of their earnings from the meet to pay for their travel and related expenses.
For 2017, this program is being structured to provide athletes with funds for international meets in the spring as well as for the traditional summer period.

  1. Tier 1 Athletes – $2,000*

  2. Tier 2 Athletes – $1,500*

  3. Tier 3 Athletes – $1,000*

  4. Tier 4 Athletes – $1,000*

  5. Consideration will be given to those athletes not among those above whose current performances are among the Top 10 (World Rankings-2017) – $1,000*

  6. Special consideration will also be given to “hardship” athletes, being those who were a 2016 Tier athlete (based on world rankings in 2015), but have experienced serious injury, illness or maternity leave in 2016 that caused them to be excluded from the 2016 World Rankings List – $1,000*

*The amount of these grants is subject to change, based on number of qualified athletes who apply and are approved and the set program budget.
The application process will begin in May/June
