2018 USATF Annual Meeting – AAC Application for Funding

Applications are required of those qualified athletes who wish to attend the 2018 USATF Annual Meeting, to be held in Columbus, Ohio, November 28 - December 2. Online applications are now being accepted. The link to the application can be found at the bottom of the page. The deadline to submit an application for funding is October 22, 2018, however, you are encouraged to apply early as funding is limited.

NOTE: Completion of application does not mean an athlete has been approved for funding. Funding notifications will be sent via email by October 29.
Due to limited funding available, priority will be given to applicants who meet the following criteria:
Tier 1 Athletes:

  • Medaled, in an individual event or as a member of a relay team, in either/both of the two (2) most recent world- major athletics championships (2017 World Championships and 2016 Olympic Games); OR
  • Achieved a top-10 world rank by Track & Field News (year-end rank for 2017) or (year-end ranking for 2017); OR
  • Achieved a top-5 world rank in 2016 by Track & Field News (year-end ranking for 2016) or (year-end ranking for 2016).

Tier 2 Athletes:

  • Placed among the top 8 place finishers in either/both of the two (2) most recent world-major athletics championships (2017 World Championships and/or 2016 Olympic Games); OR
  • Achieved a top-20 world ranking in 2017 by (year-end ranking for 2017); OR
  • Achieved a sixth through tenth (6-10) world ranking in 2016 by Track & Field News (year- end ranking for 2016) or (year-end ranking for 2016).

Tier 3 Athletes:

  • Be an Immediate Post Collegian (IPC), those who completed or forfeited collegiate eligibility during the 2016/2017 track and field or cross-country season, AND who have achieved the 2017 World (outdoor) Championships qualifying standard in their respective event, during the 2017 indoor and/or outdoor seasons.

Tier 4 Athletes:

  • Be ranked among the top-2 U.S. by Track & Field News in its 2017 year-end rankings, and/or
  • Achieved a top-2 place finish at the 2017 USATF Championships – in track & field, 20km & 50km RW or marathon.
    • For both of the above, athletes must have also achieved the 2017 World Championships standard in their event(s) anytime in 2017.

Any remaining funding will be allocated to applicants according to the date when their online application was submitted. 
IMPORTANT - In addition to attending AAC general sessions, athletes funded to Annual Meeting will attend committee meetings to represent the interest of athletes. Committee assignments will be based (in part) upon your interest in attending meetings as indicated in your application. For complete descriptions of committee duties, please refer to Regulations 12-16 of the 2018 Governance Manual. Your AAC Officers and Event Leaders will provide you with details prior to or upon your arrival in Columbus. 
Association Funding May be Available
Athletes who may not qualify for funding through the AAC are strongly encouraged to seek travel assistance through their local Associations. Because Associations begin planning/budgeting for Annual Meeting a few months in advance, it is best to contact them now.
On Friday, November 30th, Athletes attending Annual Meeting have the opportunity to participate in RunJumpThrow, a USATF initiative which allows USATF athletes to introduce track & field and exercise to children ages 7-12. This event will feature games, music and, of course, physical activity. If you have never participated in RunJumpThrow, watch the following RJT recap video:
