Coaching Enhancement Grants

USATF is pleased to offer the following grants to assist coaches in their professional growth.  An application within the stated timeline is required of interested candidates. Please send completed applications to USATF Director of Coaching, Terry Crawford, at terry.crawford@usatf.org. All applications will be forwarded to the grants sub-committee of the Coaches Advisory Committee. Selection and notification to recipients will be made within 10 days of the event’s application deadline.

World Junior Championships Coaches Conference
Location: Eugene, Oregon
Date: July 28, 2014
Grants: Three (3) $800
Application Deadline: June 1, 2014

The IAAF World Junior Championships Coaches Conference will conclude the week of competition, coaching activities, and meetings in Eugene, Oregon, July 21- July 28. The one day conference is focused to address elite coaching at the youth and junior level for IAAF World Junior Championship delegation coaches. USATF has secured a limited number of invites for accepted USATF LEVEL 2 coaches.  Registration for the Conference will be on the USATF Special programs Coaching Education webpage and also the World Junior Championship site at gotracktownusa.com.

Three (3) grants for $800 each towards travel expenses.

Criteria:

  1. Member of the USATF Coaches Registry.
  2. USATF Level 2 Coach
  3. Current Coach at high school or college, professional level.
  4. Application that includes a half page philosophical statement on career goal and one page resume.

National Championships Mentorship Grant
Location: Sacramento, California
Date: June  26-29, 2014
Grants: Four (4) $800
Application Deadline: May 1, 2014

This unique mentorship program will provide an up close and personal experience of the strategies, meet prep, mental preparation and "in the moment” coaching for an emerging elite coach in a chosen event. The grant recipient will shadow one of USATF’s Master coaches through the rounds and final of a chosen event.  A group administrator will lead rap sessions before and after each round and the each day will conclude with an opportunity to talk with a different Master coach.

Four (4) $800 grants are available towards travel expenses. A national championships credential  will be distributed to each coach. Grant recipients will be reimbursed for any travel expenses related to the mentorship. All receipts must be submitted to Terry Crawford, terry.crawford@usatf.org, within 30 days of the event for reimbursement.

Criteria:

  1. No athlete competing during the designated dates of the mentorship.
  2. Current coach with minimum 8 years experience as a high school head coach or minimum 5 years experience as a college assistant or head coach.
  3. Coached an athlete at the Junior or Senior USATF Outdoor Championships in the last five years or coached a high school athlete at the State Championships.
  4. USATF Level 2 Coaching Education certificate.
  5. Member of the USATF Coaches Registry.
  6. Position statement on the value of attending the mentorship, submitted with application (no more than half a page).


Master Coach Mentorship Grant
Location: Chula Vista Olympic Training Center or designated High Performance Training Center
Date: Varies
Grants: Three (3) $800
Application Deadline: September 1, 2014

Three (3) emerging elite coaches will be awarded up to $800 towards expenses to visit on location a Master Coach to observe for 3 days of on the field routine as fall training begins for the elite athlete. Locations to be selected include: Olympic Training Center - Chula Vista; HSI Sprint Club - Los Angeles; or candidate can suggest a coach they would like to shadow for approval. Dates of mentorship must be selected between October 20 - December 15, 2014.

Criteria:

  1.  Member of the USATF Coaches Registry
  2. USATF Level 2 Coach
  3. Current high school, college, or professional elite coach
  4. Application to include a brief statement of how coach will utilize the information


Podium Education Project
Location: Anaheim, California
Date: December 3, 2014
Grants: Five (5) $500
Application Deadline: September 15, 2014

The Podium Education Project is held in conjunction with USATF Annual Meeting, whilch will be held in Anaheim, California from December 2 - 6, 2014. This high performance symposium will offer cutting edge research and training methods to impact the athletic performance for aspiring world class athletes.  Detailed event information will be available in the fall. Five (5) $500 grants will be available towards travel expenses.

Criteria:

  1. Member of the USATF Coaches Registry
  2. USATF Level 2 Coach
  3. Current Coach at high school or college, professional level.
  4. Application that includes a half page philosophical statement on career goals.


NACACTFCA Congress
Location: Embassy Suites Isla Verde - San Juan, Puerto Rico
Date: October 2-5, 2014
Grants: Two (2) $800
Application Deadline: July 15, 2014

The NACACTFCA Congress will feature topics on youth athletics featuring Malek El Hebil as the featured speaker. Malek El Hebil is the IAAF Director of Member Services and Development and the developer of the highly successful IAAF Kids’ Athletics Program hosted worldwide. Other speakers on youth development and nutrition include Lyle Sanderson, Canadian coach and youth specialist, and Dr. Roberta Anding, nutritionist from Rice University.

Two (2) $800 grants will be awarded to cover travel expenses. As members of the USATF Coaches Registry, coaches are affiliated with NACACTFCA and receive the discounted registration fees. Contact Richie Mercado, rmercado@sjs.org, for more information.
