2013 Coaching Enhancement Grants

USATF is pleased to offer the following grants for the 2013 year to assist coaches in opportunities to enhance their professional growth.  An application within the stated timeline is required of interested candidates. Please send completed applications to Director of Coaching, Terry Crawford, at terry.crawford@usatf.org. All applications will be forwarded to the grants sub-committee of the Coaches Advisory Committee. Selection and notification to recipients will be made within 10 days of the event’s application deadline.

USATF / IAAF Academy
Where: IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida
When: December 8 - 14, 2013
Grants: Three (3) $1,375
Application Deadline: November 1, 2013

In partnership with the IAAF, USATF Coaching Education will offer the highest level of certification for an internationally recognized coach. Completion of all components of the course entitles a coach to receive a USATF/IAAF Diploma in the sprints and hurdles. CEU and graduate credit is available from Indiana University, the sponsoring university required of all IAAF Academy courses.

Three (3) $1,375 grants will be awarded to cover tuition and shared room/board costs. Grant recipients will be responsible for their travel expenses to the IMG Academy.

Criteria:

  1. Coach must be a member of the Coaches Registry.
  2. Coach must have successfully completed the Level 2 course in the event of Sprints/Hurdles.
  3. Coach must be actively coaching, preferably athletes who are 16 years or older.
  4. Coach should have a minimum of 8 years of full time coaching experience indicated on submitted resume with the application.
  5. Coach has qualified an athlete to the Sr/Jr National Championships in the last five years.
  6. Coach must submit a two paragraph position statement on goals for attending the Academy.

National Championships Mentorship Grant
Where: US National Championships - Des Moines, Iowa
When: June  20-23, 2013
Grants: Six (6) $800
Application Deadline: June 1, 2013

This unique mentorship program will provide an up close and personal experience of the strategies, meet prep, mental preparation and” in the moment” coaching for an emerging elite coach in a chosen event. The grant recipient will shadow one of the USATF’s Master coaches through the rounds and final of a chosen event.  A Group administrator will lead rap sessions before and after each round and the each day will conclude with a “chat” with a different Master coach.

Six ( 6 ) $800 grants are available towards travel expenses.  Coaching Credential  to be included. The grant recipient may use funds for any travel expense and receipts must be submitted to Terry Crawford, terry.crawford@usatf.org, within 30 days of the event for reimbursement.

Criteria:

  1. A coach cannot have an athlete competing during the designated dates of the Mentorship.
  2.  A current coach who is either a head High School Coach for 8 years or a college assistant or head coach for minimum of 5 years.
  3. Has coached an athlete at the Junior or Senior USATF Outdoor Championships in the last five years or coached a high school athlete at the State Championships.
  4. USATF Level 2 Coaching Education certificate in any of the event disciplines.
  5. Member of the USATF Coaches Registry
  6. Two paragraph position statement on the value of attending the mentorship, submitted with application.

Master Coach Mentorship Grant
Where: Varies
When: October 20 - November 20
Grants: Three (3) $800
Application Deadline: September 1, 2013

Three (3) emerging elite coaches will be awarded up to $800 towards expenses to visit on location a Master Coach to observe for 3 days of “on the field” routine as Fall training begins for the elite athlete. Locations to be selected Chula Vista OTC; HSI Sprint Club, Los Angeles; or candidate can suggest a coach they would like to shadow for approval. Dates of mentorship must be selected within October 20- November 20.

Criteria:

  1.  Member of the USATF Coaches Registry
  2. Level 2 Coaching Education Certificate
  3. Current high school, college, or professional elite coach
  4. Application to include a brief statement of how you can use the information

Podium Education Project
Where: Indianapolis, Indiana
When: December 4, 2013
Grants: Ten (10) $500
Application Deadline: September 15, 2013

The Podium Education Project is held in conjunction with USATF Annual Meeting, whilch will be held in Indianapolis, Indiana from December 5 - December 7, 2013. This high performance symposium will offer cutting edge research and training methods to impact the athletic performance for aspiring world class athletes.  Detailed event information will be available in the fall. Criteria:

  1. Member of the USATF Coaches Registry
  2. Level  2 Coaching Education certificate
  3. Current Coach at high school or college, professional level.
  4. Application that includes a half page philosophical statement on career goals.
