2011 USATF National Podium Education Project

Wednesday, November 30, 2011
St. Louis, Missouri

What is it: The Podium Education Project, PEP, is an annual High Performance Coaches Symposium which brings elite coaches and sport scientists together to review and present some of the most cutting edge methodology and coaching practices in the World. It is designed to provide an exchange of knowledge between scientists, elite coaches of national team athletes, and podium level coaches who have achieved the status of developing a medal-winning athlete at the World Championships or Olympic level.

2011 Program: The theme for the 2011 PEP is “Pursuing the Podium in London." The 2011 PEP will feature world renowned sport scientist and training & conditioning specialist, Vern Gambetta. With an emphasis on preparing athletes for podium level performances in London, Vern will be detailing his proven theories on conditioning and injury prevention in the annual training regimen for world class athletes. Renato Canova, Kenyan marathon coach, will be speaking on year-round preparation for world class performance in the long distance races. Ian Stewart, British Olympian in the 5000m and successful international meet director, will be revealing tips on how to navigate the European running circuit for emerging elite athletes. Coaches panels will be featured in each of the broad event areas including Terrence Mahon & Dr. Joe Vigil for the distance events and Art Venegas & John Godina for the throws. USOC biomenchanist, Dr. Phil Cheetham and Dr. Craig Poole, Head Coach at Chula Vista Olympic Training Center will discuss biomechanical analysis and runway speed management in the horizontal jumps.  Dr. Robert Chapman and USATF medical provider, St. Vincent’s Sports Medicine will detail the latest practices in diagnostic procedures for common running injuries and how to treat them.
