Sports Science Online Modules for First Time Students

Within a week of acceptance, first time students who make tuition payment will receive a username and password to access the online Physiology, Training Theory, Biomechanics and Sports Psychology lectures provided by the USATF sport science team in which Dr. Christine Brooks is the lead instructor. This interactive format will allow students to learn at their own leisure and gain invaluable tips from one of the leaders in the online learning industry. First-time participants can reasonably expect to dedicate up to 40 hours in satisfactorily completing all required sports science coursework and preparation for the final exams. It is imperative that students begin coursework early and review materials including all quizzes prior to arrival in order to pass the exam for physiology, training theory, sports psychology and biomechanics. The exams will be administered on Thursday and Friday of the school. All sports science classroom work must be completed prior to arriving at the school on December 27, 2018. No onsite reviews will be conducted.

**Distinguished Exam Waiver - For Sports Science Modules Only

First-timers may earn a waiver for exemption of one or all of the sports science module exams. Students interested in this option will be responsible for completing all the required work and assignments with distinction. Please coordinate with Dr. Christine Brooks if you choose to accomplish the distinguished exemption. All quizzes and coursework must be completed with a passing score (80%) including extra work to earn the exemption.

Students electing to take sports science exams onsite at IMG Academy must still complete all quizzes with an 80% grade for each module.

Benefits of earning exam waiver:

  • Increased flight options for inbound travel on 12/27, and eliminates an extra night of lodging on 12/26 should you be unable to arrive prior to the first scheduled examination time.
  • Ease stress and anxiety prior to arriving at Level 2; onsite exam scores will be available immediately after submission.

Grading Protocols
Sports Science: The sports science curriculum is required of all first-time students to Level 2; online exams are administered for training theory, physiology, sports psychology, and biomechanics during the first two days of the school. Students have access to the online modules as soon as they have paid tuition to the Level 2 School. Also, specific sports science assignments and the grading protocol will be sent to students at time of access to the online sports science modules. This online learning environment is self-paced. Early access to the online modules assures the student of appropriate preparation for the exams when they arrive onsite December 27. A passing grade is 80%, any student failing will have a one-time online retake (no exceptions) during the first 30 days after the close of school on December 31. Students must pass all four sports science exams to be eligible to gain a Level 2 certification. Students should bring to the school site an electronic device (laptop or tablet) to access the online exams.

Event Specific Evaluation:
Each event group will be evaluated on three specific tasks:

  1. Session plan developed by each student will be collected and graded on Thursday morning of the event specific lecture (a one-page explanation of a training session to include all the appropriate components).
  2. Written exam of 25-30 multiple-choice questions, true false and short answer response (80% grade is required to pass the exam).
  3. Either a group presentation or individual oral exam, determined by the event lecturers.

There is a one-time retest after the school completion and within 30 days of completion of the school for a student who fails to meet the 80% passing grade.

Any student requesting ADA accommodations must make that request at the time of completing the application, and support the request with the appropriate documentation sent to the Director of Coaching, Said application must be completed no later than six (6) weeks prior to the school opening in order to ensure the availability of any such reasonable accommodations or other required assistance during the Level 2 coaching school.
