Chocolatey Hershey PA, and the 2011 PIAA XC State Championships

Another great weekend on the road. This time Blake and I touched down in the Keystone state. We were set up at the PIAA XC State Championships. As I stated in a previous post, the runners at the high school events always have increasing levels of energy, similar to that of toddlers who wouldn't mind being in Hershey PA to eat tons of candy.

The times were pretty good for the 5k course with rolling hills on the campus of Hershey Park. The AA Girls team title was won by St. Basil Academy, the AA Boys team title went to Quaker Valley, the AAA Girls team title went to Pennsbury, while the AAA Boys team title went to North Penn.

From what I remember, North Penn always had a good team. I can remember they slid right past our DMR at The Penn Relays when I was at St. Benedict’s, but then again that was 10 years ago.

We love coming to the PIAA State meets, mainly because they love having us there. With a combination of "Cloud"Market Street Sports Group and PIAA always putting on a great meet, to the kids and their parents really digging the merchandise we bring, it makes for a win-win situation. From what I saw, there are gonna be a tons of distance runners in PA running around in our half zip dubbed as the “Cloud” by Matt Weingardt a few months back. While we were in PA, Matt was in NY getting ready for the ING New York Marathon.

The vendors there were great too. It made sense for having Got Milk there to give out tons of chocolate milk. It was also great to see my college roommate/teammate David Bracetty, his photography company David Bracetty Photography was the official photographer for the meet. He also brought along some of my ex-teamates.

The best part about our trip this weekend was the fact that it was not nail biting cold, and it was perfect XC weather. When the races started it I believe it was in the mid 50’s. Still cold enough for Blake and I to keep our sweatshirts on, yet warm enough to knock out some decent times on the course with rolling hills.

Next up we will be in the Atlanta area.
