Youth Outdoor Championships come to an exciting close with a pair of national records

BLOOMINGTON, Indiana -- USATF Youth Outdoor Championships continued Sunday, June 29 on the campus of Indiana University with the final day of competition.

Sunday events started fast-paced with the 100-meter finals as fans saw great competition with Anthony Schwartz (Pembrooke Pines, Florida), of the 13-14 boys division, crossing the finish line with a time of 11.45 and Semira Killebrew (Indianapolis, Indiana) taking first with 12.62 in the 13-14 girls division.

The 1500m provided intense races throughout all age groups. The 7-8 boys 1500m race saw Everett Capelle (Laguna Beach, California) break the previous national record of 5:11.00 with his 5:09.44. Another close finish was in the 15-16 girls 1500m as Camille Davre (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) took first place with a time of 4:39.18, winning by just .43 seconds.

The 110mH yielded a great performance from Isaiah Moore (Burlington, North Carolina) of the 17-18 mens group. Competing against teammate, Marcus Krah (Durham, North Carolina). Moore glided across the finish for a time of 13.95.

The final day of field events contributed to an already great week of performances as Riley Smith of the mens 17-18 pole vault came away with first place, clearing a height of 4.40m/14-05.25.

In the hammer throw, Lena Giger (Highland, Illinois) defeated the next closest opponent by an almost unimaginable mark of 30 feet with her throw of 55.80mN/183-01. That throw now stands as the national record, surpassing the previous mark set in 2012 of 54.30m/178-1.75.

Olympian Dwight Phillips returned to Youth Outdoors, starting several races including the 4x400m relays as well as a few others. Phillips also signed autographs and awarded medals.
