What a Night! Rupp and Cain's Record-Breaking Performances in a Social Sphere
Galen Rupp (Portland, Ore.) and Mary Cain (Bronxville, N.Y.) both turned in impressive showings Thursday evening at the Boston University Multi-Team Meet.
Rupp set a new American record in the indoor men’s 5,000m with his time of 13:01.26, breaking Lopez Lomong’s previous record of 13:07.00.
Cain’s time of 2:39.25 in the 1,000m is a new world indoor junior record, eclipsing the previous time by nearly a full second (2:40.1 - Diana Richburg, 1982).
Both Cain and Rupp were trending nationally on Twitter for a time Thursday night and the Twittersphere was abuzz with chatter about both performances.
Cain is confirmed to compete in the first event of the USATF Championship Series, the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix.
