Weekend Roundup - January 22, 2019


— At the Houston Half Marathon, Emily Sisson became the second-fastest American woman to run the half, just five seconds shy of Molly Huddle’s American record. Her time of 1:07:30 earned fifth place finish in just her third race at that distance.

— Ultra marathoner Jim Walmsley, who set a new course record six months ago at the Western States 100 Mile Endurance Run, put his versatility on full display at the Houston Half Marathon. Walmsley finished with the exact required to qualify for the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials - Marathon, 1:04:00.

— Twice in one weekend at Clemson, Florida’s Grant Holloway ran 7.49 for the 60m hurdles, equaling the No. 5 all-time collegiate performance. For good measure, Holloway also clocked 20.69 to win the 200m and contributed the fastest 4x400 leg (45.62) for the Gators’ winning 3:04.74 relay.


— Houston’s men’s 4x400 quartet won at Texas Tech in 3:03.31, putting the Cougars at No. 4 on the all-time collegiate team list. Last year’s USATF Outdoor 400m champion, Kahmari Montgomery, anchored the win in 45.01 after a strong lead-off leg from Team USATF’s 2018 NACAC and World Cup relay gold medalist Obi Igbokwe.


— American indoor record holder Keturah Orji bounded 14.39m/47-2.5 at Clemson, the second best indoor triple jump ever by an American.


— Last year’s USATF Indoor 800m champion Donavan Brazier moved to fifth on the U.S. all-time 600m list with his 1:15.46 at the Texas A&M Triangular. USC’s Isaiah Jewett became the eight-fastest collegian at that distance with a 1:15.95 at the MLK Invitational in Albuquerque.


— Former Iowa star Brittany Brown zipped to the seventh-fastest 300m ever by an American woman, covering the lap-and-a-half at the Wieczorek Invitational in 36.30.


— Akron’s Matt Ludwig won the elite men’s competition at the Pole Vault Summit in Reno, clearing 5.71m/18-8.75 to move to equal 10th on the all-time U.S. collegians list.
