USATF officially petitions IAAF for schedule change to allow for Felix 200-400 double

12/14/2015

INDIANAPOLIS -- USATF has formally petitioned the IAAF to amend the competition schedule for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, requesting that a change be made to allow for 2015 Jackie Joyner-Kersee Female Athlete of the Year Allyson Felix to double in the 200 and 400 meters next summer.

“Allyson is the most decorated female athlete in IAAF history and should have the chance to go for a double, competing in what likely will be her fourth and final Olympic Games,” USATF CEO Max Siegel said. “Such an achievement would elevate the sport at the Games, and as a federation we owe it to her and to the sport as a whole to make the request.”

Felix focused on the 400 meters on the world stage in 2015, capturing the IAAF World Championships gold medal in Beijing in a personal best 49.26. Felix didn’t shy away from her marquee event in 2015, winning the Diamond League title in the 200 meters to become one of just four American athletes to win three or more Diamond League crowns.

Felix has six Olympic medals, including three gold from the 2012 Olympic Games in London. She is also a 10-time World Champion and 14-time World medalist.
