USATF kicks off post-Rio "Victory Tour" in NYC

NEW YORK - USA Track & Field today will kick off a celebration of one of its most successful Olympics in history, launching a "Victory Tour" that begins in New York.
Olympic medalists such as Allyson Felix, Jenny Simpson, Michelle Carter, Emma Coburn, Natasha Hastings, Jeff Henderson, Will Claye, Dalilah Muhammad and Kristi Castlin are among those participating in the tour, which also will visit Atlanta on Sept. 15, Los Angeles on Sept. 20 and Washington, D.C. on Sept. 30.
At each stop of the tour, athletes will visit a local school to lead RunJumpThrow, USATF's youth physical activity program with The Hershey Company. Launched in 2014, RunJumpThrow has reached more than 500,000 children throughout the country and has been held internationally in three countries, encouraging children to get moving through basic track and field skills.
Visits to local children's hospitals, media tours and participation in local sporting or community events are on tap throughout the tour as well.
"The USATF Victory Tour provides an opportunity to promote and celebrate the success of USATF athletes in Rio and to connect that success to the everyday lives of kids and communities," USATF CEO Max Siegel said. "Track & field is a year-round sport that doesn't end when the Olympics finish. With the tour, we can share our success and also remind people that track and physical activity are accessible to everyone."
At the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, USATF athletes won 32 medals for the highest medal count at an unboycotted Olympics since 1932. Four American records, two Olympic records, and 15 U.S. Olympic records all were broken over the course of 10 days of competition.
