USATF distributes RunJumpThrow equipment kits to Let’s Move! Active Schools second round grant winners

INDIANAPOLIS -- USATF and Let’s Move! Active Schools today announced the second round schools to receive RunJumpThrow Equipment Kits grants. The grants from USATF provide equipment that schools may use for teaching the basic skills of running, jumping and throwing, whether in the classroom, as part of before and after school programs, or through sport clubs and teams.

More than 180 schools submitted applications during the second open enrollment period from August 31 to October 31, 2015 to receive a grant. Schools were selected to receive the grants based upon financial need, amount of students impacted by the grant, overall involvement in sports, after school programs and other factors that promote physical activity outside the classroom.

The following schools each will receive a USATF RunJumpThrow equipment grant:

Beloved Community Charter School, Jersey City, NJ

Coppell High School, Coppell, TX

South Medford High School, Medford, OR

Hampton Elementary School, Hampton, TN

North Park Montessori, Grand Rapids, MI

Payette Primary School, Payette, ID

Witch Hazel Elementary School, Hillsboro, OR

Rice Elementary, San Carlos, AZ

Dr. Raul Garza Jr. Elementary, San Benito, TX

Eagle College Prep Fox Park, Saint Louis, MO

Through RunJumpThrow, kids participate in fun, hands-on learning events designed to build basic running, jumping and throwing skills. The RunJumpThrow toolkit for educators includes a turnkey, six-week curriculum and instructional DVD demonstrating as many as 20 physical activities. RunJumpThrow may also be conducted in schools as a single-day event. The equipment kit will assist teachers in the execution and teaching of the program and skills.

Through teaming up with Let’s Move! Active Schools, USATF is awarding a grant to one Lets Move! Active Schools enrolled school every week for one year leading into the 2016 Olympic Games. Each grant will be used for purchase of a RunJumpThrow equipment kit.

Enrollment and applications for the third round of USATF RunJumpThrow Equipment Kit grants is under way. The current open enrollment continues through February 29. Access the grant application HERE.
