USATF distributes RunJumpThrow Equipment Kits to Let’s Move! Active School third round grant winners

4/7/2016

INDIANAPOLIS -- USATF and Let’s Move! Active Schools have announced the third round of schools to receive RunJumpThrow Equipment grants. The grants from USATF provide schools with equipment to teach the basic skills of running, jumping and throwing, whether in the classroom, as part of before and after school programs, or through sport clubs and teams.

More than 160 schools submitted grant applications from Jan. 4 to Feb. 29, 2016, during the third open enrollment period. Schools were selected to receive the grants based upon financial need, number of students impacted by the grant, overall involvement in sports programs, after school programs and other factors that promote physical activity outside the classroom.

The following schools each will receive a USATF RunJumpThrow equipment grant:

George Buck Elementary, Indianapolis, IN

West Birdville Elementary School, Haltom City, TX

Richey Elementary, Pasadena, TX

Memorial Elementary, Arcadia, FL

Dexter Elementary School, Cordova, TN

Thomasville Primary School, Thomasville, NC

Lone Oak Elementary, Spartanburg, SC

Southern Hills Elementary School, Oklahoma City, OK

Ella Flagg Young, Chicago, IL

Alfred Benesch Elementary School, Cleveland, OH

Harry Bridges Span School, Wilmington, CA

Sequoia Charter School, Mesa, AZ

Through RunJumpThrow, kids participate in fun, hands-on learning events designed to build basic running, jumping and throwing skills. The RunJumpThrow toolkit for educators includes a turnkey, six-week curriculum and instructional DVD demonstrating as many as 20 physical activities. RunJumpThrow may also be conducted in schools as a single-day event. The equipment kit will assist teachers in the execution and teaching of the program and skills.

Through teaming up with Let’s Move! Active Schools, USATF is awarding a grant to one Lets Move! Active Schools-enrolled school every week for one year leading into the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Each grant will be used for purchase of a RunJumpThrow equipment kit.

Enrollment and applications for the fourth round of USATF RunJumpThrow Equipment grants will begin April 1 and continue through May 31. Access the grant application HERE.
