USATF announces staff changes

INDIANAPOLIS - USA Track & Field announces a number of recent staff changes as the organization continues to restructure its National Office staffing.

“Over recent months, we have shifted job assignments, promoted internally and brought aboard new talent,” said USATF CEO Max Siegel. “Our staffing plan has evolved to maximize each employee’s contribution to the organization while advancing our business and strategic objectives.”

E. SUSAN HAZZARD
Director of Public Relations

Hazzard has been promoted to Director of Public Relations, effective March 1. She has been a member of the USATF staff since 2000, initially supervising USATF’s publications and moving up to Associate Director of Communications and Association Director of Public Relations. In her new role, she leads the USATF communications department on a day-to-day basis and oversees the organization’s overall public relations and community outreach efforts. Under her supervision, USATF in 2004 launched its signature youth outreach program “Win with Integrity."

Before arriving at USATF, she served as athletics publications director at the University of Kentucky and Louisiana State University. With much of her career spent as a graphic artist, Hazzard was responsible for creating the logo for the Kentucky athletic department. She started her career in sports as the marketing director at the Nick Bollettierri Tennis Academy (now IMG Academy) in Bradenton, Fla., where tennis greats such as Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras, Jim Courier and Monica Seles started their careers.

Hazzard earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Kentucky in Lexington.

ARIONNE ALLEN
Associate Director of Youth Programs

Allen since October of 2012 has served as USATF associate director of youth programs, overseeing the youth and grass roots initiatives while managing the national junior Olympic championships and youth championships.

Allen previously served as Marketing Manager at MSI and Manager of Business Development at Revolution Racing. She managed Rev Racing’s relationship with the U.S. Army and event activation for sponsors in more than 20 U.S. markets. Her experience also includes managing and planning events, acting as an instructor at Indiana University and interning at the CIAA Conference and Hampton University. 

A former participant in USATF’s Junior Olympic program, Allen was a scholarship track athlete at Hampton University, where she won Most Outstanding Student Athlete of the year and VAHPERD Outstanding Women’s Student Athlete of the Year.  She holds a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management from Hampton and M.S. in Kinesiology, Athletic Administration from Indiana University.

ALEJANDRA DIAZ-LABRECQUE
Associate Director of Sales and Marketing

Diaz-Labrecque assumed the newly created position of associate director of sales and marketing with USA Track & Field in February. In her role, Diaz-Labrecque identifies and leads opportunities for sales pitches, creates new fulfillment programs and works closely with the CEO and Chief Public Affairs Officer on overall sales and sponsorship for USATF.

Diaz-Labrecque previously served as manager of multicultural development at NASCAR, where she managed a $2.7 million budget to develop diverse and female drivers and crew members.  Her initiatives led to the development of NASCAR’s first Spanish-language marketing platform, Bienvenidos a NASCAR. 

She also created Latin Key Consulting to provide multicultural marketing solutions for businesses pursuing the Hispanic market sector, and served a stint with the NBA’s Orlando Magic, where she was responsible for radio, TV and print ads, as well as developing a Spanish language marketing campaign.

Diaz-Labrecque earned a B.A. in Finance from Notre Dame where she was a four-year letter winner and captain of the golf team.  She holds her MBA and Masters in Sports Business Management from Central Florida.

TALIA MARK
Associate Director of Athlete Services

Talia Mark joins the USATF family as Associate Director of Athlete Services on February 28. She comes to USATF having worked in the Olympic family since 2011, serving as marketing manager for USA Swimming.  While there, she led the “Make a Splash” tour with Cullen Jones and oversaw USA Swimming’s first public relations campaign highlighting its diverse athletes and minority-focused community initiatives.

Mark previously spent six years in marketing within the NASCAR industry, where she was responsible for race-day hospitality events and sponsor and driver relations for Ford Racing. She organized the logistics and communications for numerous driver ¬visits, autograph sessions and driver-integrated community events. She also worked in NASCAR’s consumer marketing department, where she developed and managed NASCAR Kinetics, a college outreach program that had a presence on more than 20 campuses nationwide. She was also manager of diversity affairs for NASCAR, developing NASCAR’s multicultural marketing plan with a focus on African-Americans, Hispanics and youth.

She is a graduate of Central Michigan University.

DESIREE FRIEDMAN
Associate Director of Constituent Services

Desiree Friedman joins USATF as Associate Director of Constituent Services on March 1 after serving as Global Market Manager at Vision Service Plan, which serves more than 57 million members.  She was Director of Marketing and Sales for the California Interscholastic Federation, representing more than 1,500 public and private member schools and more than 757,000 student-athletes.  While there, she secured the highest grossing high school sports media rights deal in the nation and had sole oversight of all marketing initiatives and partnerships.

Friedman has experience in college athletics at Cal State Long Beach as well as working for the LA Lakers as a PR Assistant.  She is an avid sports fan and has attended the last three summer Olympic Games. She holds a B.A. in Communications and Journalism from Cal State-Northridge and a Masters in Sports Management from Cal State-Long Beach. 


KELLY KENDERS
Senior Administrative Assistant

Kenders joined USA Track & Field on February 26 as senior administrative assistant in the national office.  Kenders will provide general administrative support to the CEO and COO, as well as serve as a liaison with the USATF Board of Directors.  

Kenders arrived at USATF following time spent with Wireless at Work/Nextfly Communications, where she worked in administrative support and graphic design. Her work experience has also included stints in ad and graphic design with the Yellow Pages Group, Sharp Printing Services, Inc., Summit Financial Partners, Delaney Printing & Litho Company and she spent time working as a freelance artist.

Kenders received her bachelor’s degree in graphic arts management with a minor in business administration from Ball State University.


NICK MORELAND
Internet Publishing Coordinator

Moreland joined USATF as Internet Publishing Coordinator on February 19. He is responsible for maintaining website content that includes updating results, event pages and statistics among other tasks.

Moreland arrived at the national office after working as a USATF communications intern in the spring of 2012. He has also held internships with the American Junior Golf Association, the NCAA and within the sports information department at Indiana University-Purdue University-Indianapolis (IUPUI). He has also spent the last two seasons working as a statistician for NBC for University of Notre Dame home football games and select Indianapolis Colts home games.

Moreland graduated from IUPUI  with a bachelor’s degree in journalism with an concentration on public relations and a minor in geography.
