INDIANAPOLIS -- The 2014 USATF High Performance Distance Classic, formerly known as the Oxy Invite, is set for Thursday, May 15. Due to extreme temperatures in the Los Angeles area, the meet has been pushed back to start at 7:30 p.m. PT.
USATF.tv will carry the event live beginning at 10:30 p.m. ET/7:30 p.m. PT with Paul Swangard and Carrie Tollefson on the call. The event is held on the campus of Occidental College at Jack Kemp Stadium.
The mission of the meet is to provide an outstanding competitive opportunity for America’s elite middle & long distance runners and optimal racing conditions for them to attain IAAF World Championships and Olympic Games qualifying standards. Last year, the USATF Distance Classic produced an American Junior Record, two meet records, and 12 “A” and 34 “B” qualifying standards for the 2013 IAAF World Championships in Moscow. A total of 56 athletes set new personal bests.
10 members of Team USA’s roster for the inaugural IAAF World Relays will be competing Thursday evening, including Kate Grace, Heather Kampf and Brenda Martinez in the women’s 800, Robby Andrews and Mike Rutt in the men’s 800, Geena Gall-Lara, Katie Mackey and Sara Vaughn in the women’s 1,500, Pat Casey, Garrett Heath and Will Leer in the men’s 1,500 and Leer in the men’s 5,000.
