INDIANAPOLIS - The USA Track & Field Foundation has named the nine inaugural Stephen A. Schwarzman elite grant recipients, announced Foundation Executive Director Tom Jackovic and Chairman Bob Greifeld today.
Schwarzman, the Chairman, CEO and co-founder of Blackstone, recently made a major gift of $500,000 to the USATF Foundation in support of world-class athletes in track and field that are likely medal contenders at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
“I congratulate this deserving group of grantees and applaud their exceptional drive and dedication,” said Schwarzman. “It is an honor to support such a talented group of men and women and I hope that with the USATF Foundation’s help and their own determination, we can help them achieve their Olympic ambitions.”
The nine outstanding men and women track & field athletes receiving $7,000 grants include:
(long Jump) – 2012 Olympian
(100 meters) – 2008 Olympian & 2011 World Outdoor 4x100m Gold Medalist
(pole vault) – 2011 USA Outdoor Champion
(triple jump) – 2008 Olympian & 2005 World Championships Team Member
(800 meters) – 2012 Olympic Finalist, 2010 World Indoor Bronze Medalist
(400 meters) – 2012 Olympic Silver Medalist (4x400m Relay)
(long jump) – 2004 Olympic Gold Medalist, 4-Time World Outdoor Championships Gold Medalist
(110 meter hurdles) – 2012 Olympian
(1500 meters) – 2012 Olympic Finalist
The Foundation Elite Athlete Grant Program contributes to the pursuit of world-class performances by American post-collegiate track and field athletes. Athletes must meet minimum performance and financial need standards to be eligible.
The USATF Foundation provides a means to attract and guide funds to new and innovative track and field programs with an emphasis on providing opportunities for youth athletes, emerging elite athletes, distance training centers and anti-doping education. The Foundation depends upon donations from its Board of Directors, major gifts and from generous fans of track & field.
Elite athletes are supported by the Foundation via monetary grants, career counseling (mentoring & jobs) and participation in Run With US!
. Youth athletes are supported via monetary grants to youth clubs.
