USATF Foundation Chairman Bob Greifeld to receive 2016 Groundbreaker Award on behalf of Foundation

INDIANAPOLIS -- In recognition of over a decade of service resulting in millions of dollars raised for athletes, USA Track & Field announced Chairman Bob Greifeld will accept USATF’s Groundbreaker Award on behalf of the USATF Foundation. The CEO of NASDAQ-OMX Group, Greifeld will receive the award at USATF’s Black Tie & Sneakers Gala on November 3 in New York City.

Also being honored at the Black Tie & Sneakers Gala are USATF Legacy Award winners Jackie Joyner-Kersee and Dick Fosbury and 2016 USATF National Track & Field Hall of Fame Inductees Connie Price-Smith, Frank Zarnowski, Butch Reynolds, Buddy Edelen and Al Feuerbach.

Since Greifeld became Chairman in 2004, the USATF Foundation has raised over $3 million to support elite and youth track athletes. Nearly 500 grants have been given through the Elite Athlete Grant program. The Foundation now includes 30 members on its board of directors.

“USATF Foundation has been dedicated to successfully moving the needle to help USATF support athletes as they develop and work to become stars,” USATF President Stephanie Hightower said. “Under Bob’s leadership, they have assisted an entire generation of athletes. The Groundbreaker Award couldn’t go to a more deserving leader and organization.”

Greifeld, a dedicated runner himself who has completed four marathons, is also owner of a New York franchise of the TrackTown Summer Series League.

In addition to the Hall of Fame and special honorees, USATF’s second annual Black Tie & Sneakers Gala will welcome USATF’s 2016 Olympic medalists, including Allyson Felix, Matthew Centrowitz, Michelle Carter, Jeff Henderson and the women’s 100 hurdles “sweep” team of Brianna Rollins, Nia Ali and Kristi Castlin, among many others.
