USATF, American Cancer Society team up to fight cancer, promote healthy living

12/6/2016

INDIANAPOLIS -- USA Track & Field and the American Cancer Society will collaborate on a fundraising effort to raise money for cancer research as well as USATF Youth programs, the two organizations jointly announced Tuesday.

With a theme of Together: Nothing Is Impossible, the campaign will focus on prevention and early detection, with a strong focus on the importance of nutrition and physical activity. Public service announcements will feature Team USATF athletes telling their own, inspiring stories to engage fans and proactively create healthy lifestyles that achieve greatness in daily life.

“USATF is very proud to partner with an organization as respected and far-reaching as the American Cancer Society,” USATF CEO Max Siegel said. “Like all Americans, most Team USATF athletes have been touched by cancer in some way, either personally or through their friends and families. Our partnership with ACS provides a very personal way for athletes to have an impact far beyond the competitive playing field.”

“The American Cancer Society is excited to be working with USATF to reach their youth fans through healthy messages,” said David Doan, VP, Sports Alliances, American Cancer Society. “About 2 out of 3 Americans are overweight or obese, and scientific evidence indicates that daily physical activity and a balanced diet can reduce one’s cancer risk.”

USATF and ACS will launch the campaign via electronic and social media, engaging the public in a united effort centered around the star athletes of track & field.
