USA Track & Field, YWCA USA join forces on RunJumpThrow

INDIANAPOLIS – In a new partnership, YWCA USA will adopt USATF’s RunJumpThrow youth activity program as part of its national offerings to the girls and women it serves, the two organizations jointly announced Wednesday.

USATF and The Hershey Company in 2014 created RunJumpThrow (RJT), a hands-on learning program designed to get kids excited about physical activity by introducing them to basic running, jumping and throwing skills through track and field. Since the first RJT held in 2015, the program has reached more than 500,000 children.

Working with USATF, YWCA will utilize a specially branded RunJumpThrow curriculum to focus on YWCA’s national platform to improve the health of women and girls of color. Over 120,000 children participate in YWCA programs each year, and nearly 75,000 are girls.

“USATF and YWCA USA share a focus on positively impacting the lives of children, especially those who are traditionally underserved,” USATF CEO Max Siegel. “We believe in the YWCA’s mission and look forward to working with them to get even more kids running, jumping and throwing.”

“Every child deserves the opportunity to grow up strong,” said YWCA USA CEO Dara Richardson-Heron, M.D., “That’s why YWCA has been providing women and girls with opportunities to be active and healthy since 1870. This mission-focused RunJumpThrow curriculum will continue that bold legacy with a strong new partnership with USATF.”

By partnering on the program, YWCA USA will host RunJumpThrow events nationwide as well as implementing the curriculum at its affiliates throughout the country. USATF and YWCA also will co-host a “RunJumpThrow Experience” event in 2017, featuring USATF star athletes working with key YWCA populations.

National Partners of USATF’s RJT initiative also include Let’s Move! Active Schools, SHAPE America, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority and the Washington DC Parks & Recreation Department.
