INDIANAPOLIS – The 2014 USA 10 km Race Walk Championships will feature several top competitors in Dayton, Ohio, May 11.
According to Michael Roth, USATF Race Walk Committee Statistician,
Jil Cobb and Sam Cohen, in the open women’s race should create and exciting battle to the finish. Both have competed on Team USA many times over their careers with Cobb being a former national record holder and NAIA Champion.
In the men’s open division, David Swarts has the upper hand sfor a comfortable victory after making a name for himself while competiting at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials – Track & Field in Eugene, Ore.
Ashleigh Resch, a guest competitor from Australia, should create challenges for the Americans in the junior women’s walk. Resch was the National Scholastic Mile Champion and winner
of the junior division at the Penn Relays. She has the top time at the 5 km distance and has the fifth best time at 10km for high school athletes.
The US Championship will come down to a close race between Anali Cisneros and Jennifer Lopez, who rank No. 7 and No. 8 respectively at the 10 km distance for high school-aged walkers.
For the junior men, Alexander Peters, a former state of Ohio
record holder at both 5 km and 10 km distances, ranks third in
the United States in both distances for high school athletes. Peters is walking with such confidence that he could potentially challenge the overall winner in all men's divisions.
