Team USATF shatters world junior record in men’s 4x400m relay at Pan American Junior Championships


TRUJILLO, Peru -- On the final day of Pan American Junior Championships, Team USATF set a stunning new world junior record in the men’s 4x400m relay at Chan Chan Stadium.

The dominating lineup consisted of Zachary Shinnick (Glendora, California), Josephus Lyles (Clermont, Florida), Brian Herron (Decatur, Georgia) and Sean Hooper (Fort Worth, Texas). The impressive young athletes bested the 2004 previous record of 3:01.09 - also held by Team USATF - with their clocked time of of 3:00.30.

Sunday’s record streak began with Jordan Geist (Cabot, Pennsylvania) dominating the men’s shot put with a meet record throw of 22.02m/72-3. Geist, who will start at the University of Arizona in the fall, broke Mason Finley’s 2003 record of 20.36m/66-9.75.

Not to be outdone, Laulauga Tausaga-Collins (Spring Valley, California) broke the 1997 women’s discus throw Pan American Junior Championships record on Saturday with 59.29m/194-6.
