Team USATF set for 2018 Pan Am Combined Events Challenge

INDIANAPOLIS -- The 2018 Pan Am Combined Events starts today in Ottawa, Ontario, led by Coaches Gwen Wentland-Mikinski and John Green. This annual competition takes place in 2018 on July 3 and 4 and is composed of the men’s decathlon and women’s heptathlon.

On the men’s side, three athletes will wear USA across their chests. Scott Filip (Bloomingdale, Illinois) is a recent graduate from Rice University where he captured three All American titles at various NCAA National Championship meets. He competed at the 2017 Thorpe Cup, placing fourth with a score of 7,632 points.


Mitch Modin (Bend, Oregon) will join Filip on the men’s team. After competing for the University of Oregon, Modin has four All American titles to his name and a collegiate best of 7,578 points. Steele Wasik (Medina, Ohio) completes the men’s squad for Team USATF. Wasik competed for UCLA and Texas and is a returning member of Team USA. He competed in the decathlon at the Thorpe Cup in 2017, finishing in 11th place.


Chari Hawkins (Rexburg, Idaho) will be participating in the heptathlon for the United States. A former member of the Utah State track and field team, Hawkins has competed for the United States at the World University Games in South Korea. Additionally, she won the heptathlon at the Bedford Combined Events Games in England with a total of 6,137 points.


Lindsay Schwartz (Watertown, Wisconsin) will join Hawkins on the women’s team. Schwartz, a dual-sport athlete from the University of South Alabama, has previously competed at the Olympic Trials. The final position on the women’s team is filled by athletic standout Jaclyn Siefring (Covington, Ohio) from the University of Akron. During her years of collegiate eligibility, she had six NCAA National Championships appearances and a personal best of 5, 872 points.
