Taylor-Talcott makes history, athletes set season and personal bests at IAAF World Race Walking Team Championships

ROME -- Athletes achieved season and personal bests at IAAF World Race Walking Team Championships, where Erin Taylor-Talcott became first woman to compete internationally in the mixed 50 km event on Sunday.
Nick Christie (El Cajon, California) led the U.S. team, as he walked a season best 4:24:55. Christie came through 5 km at 24:32.49, and crossed the midpoint at 2:02:03.45. He was on pace for the Olympic qualifying standard through 35K, but experienced stomach problems, and slowed over the final 10K. Christie began his last 5K at 3:52:01 34. The second and third American finishers each posted personal bests when Steve Washburn (Chula Vista, California) crossed in 4:28:20 and Michael Mannozzi (Youngstown, Ohio) finished in 4:39:33.
Taylor-Talcott (Owego, New York), a longtime advocate for allowing women to compete at the distance, was the fourth Team USA athlete across the line in 4:51:08 after coming through 5K at  27:41 and the halfway point at 2:18:51.
