Stark YOG gold earns her USATF Athlete of the Week


Grace Stark (White Lake Township, Michigan) won the women’s 100m hurdles at the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina, to earn USATF Athlete of the Week.

Stark, who was selected as the Team USA flag bearer for the closing ceremony, had the fastest times in both phases of the innovative competition, where marks from two rounds were combined to determine the final placings. After a 13.31 in the first round, she blazed to a wind-aided 12.83 in the final to take gold, recording the fastest time ever by an American youth in any conditions. Stark’s 26.14 total put her .26 ahead of the silver medalist.

Other notable performances from the weekend:


Grant Fisher — Stanford’s Fisher was the fastest on the day at the Wisconsin Pre-Nationals cross country meet, clocking 23:48.8 to outlean Tyler Day of Northern Arizona in the 8K Cardinal race.

Athing Mu — Mu was the silver medalist in the women’s 800m at the Youth Olympic Games, running 2:05.23 in the final to total 4:13.24 over the two-round competition.

Nicholas Ramey — Ramey took bronze in the men’s 400m at the Youth Olympic Games with a 47.27 in the final and a 1:34.87 two-race tally.


Now in its 17th year, USATF’s Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
