INDIANAPOLIS – Tyler Sorensen has been named USA Track & Field’s Athlete of the Week after setting a pending national high school race walk record last weekend in Los Gatos, Calif.
Sorensen, who competed Saturday at an event hosted by the Santa Cruz Track Club, completed a 3,000m race walk in 12:03.2 His performance easily bettered the previous national high school record of 12:19.57 by Tristan Ruoss set in 1999.
Now in its tenth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
