Sights and Sounds of the .US National 12K

ALEXANDRIA -- We’re just days from the .US National 12K in Alexandria, Virginia, and participants and their families and friends are in for a day of fitness and fun.

 

Registration

Registration is open until 6 p.m. Saturday, November 15. Runners of all abilities are welcome to participate in the .US National 12K, the 1 Mile Race and the ½ Mile Kids’ Fun Run. To register, please visit the .US National 12K official website.

 

Packet Pick-Up

Participants can pick up their packets at the Crowne Plaza Old Town Alexandria from 12-8 p.m. on Friday and 10-6 p.m. on Saturday. There is no race-day packet pick-up or registration available.

 

Participant/Spectator Parking

Parking is available for participants and spectators alike on Sunday. Canal Center Plaza is the designated parking destination for the .US National 12K. Full parking directions, road closures and no parking areas can all be found here.

 

Autograph Sessions

USARC leader Christo Landry and Olympian Kim Conley will sign autographs at Pacers Running Store on King Street in Old Town Alexandria on Saturday from 2-3 p.m. Both athletes will be available for photographs and will be signing authentic .US National 12K bibs! Fans are encouraged to bring their own items for signing as well.

 

Olympic gold medalist and marathon pioneer Joan Benoit Samuelson will be participating in Sunday’s festivities. Benoit Samuelson will run the masters 12K and then will be available to sign autographs beginning at 10:15 a.m. in the Neustar tent in the Fan Festival area in Oronoco Bay Park.

 

Pre-Race Festivities

At 7:10 a.m., just prior to the start of the women’s elite race, the Old Guard will present the colors at the .US National 12K. The Old Guard are a prestigious active duty Army unit based in D.C., with their responsibilities ranging from Arlington National Cemetery ceremonies, guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and other ceremonial duties within the D.C. area.

 

Rebecca Morrison will sing the National Anthem once the colors have been presented. Rebecca is a widow of an Army veteran who committed suicide and now works for the Tragedy Assistant Program for Survivors (TAPS).

 

Fan Festival

The .US National 12K Fan Festival opens at 7 a.m. prior to the first race starting. Highlights at the Fan Festival include the USATF merchandise tent with exclusive USATF Nike gear, a beer garden featuring beer from Heavy Seas Brewery, as well as .US National 12K partner tents including Neustar, Burke & Herbert, Team RWB, and more.

 

Weather

As winter is approaching in the northeast, participants are encouraged to dress warmly with temperatures predicted to be in the low-40s at the start of the race. USATF will have hats and gloves for sale in the USATF merchandise tent.
