Ronnie Baker’s world-leading 100 earns him USATF Athlete of the Week

Ronnie Baker (Fort Worth, Texas) ran the world’s fastest time of the year in the 100m, clocking 9.87 seconds to win at the Skolimowska Memorial in Chorzów, Poland, and earn USATF Athlete of the Week.


Baker beat a talented field and had a .23 margin over runner-up Mike Rodgers as he recorded his ninth wind-legal sub-10 100m of the season. He has also won four IAAF Diamond League races this summer and will try and win the overall title Friday in Brussels.


Other notable performances from the weekend:

 

Doreen McCoubrie — McCoubrie, 56, finished third overall at the USATF Masters Women’s Mile Championships, and set a 55-59 age group national record with her 5:33.

Alan Black — Black, 44, was the overall winner of the USATF Masters Men’s Mile Championship, finishing in 4:43.

Molly Watcke — Watcke, 47, was the women’s overall winner at the USATF Masters Mile Championships with a 5:25.

Jeannie Rice — Rice won the 70-74 age group at the USATF Masters Women’s Mile Championships with an age group national record of 6:37.

Colleen Quigley — Quigley set a lifetime best of 4:03.02 to win the 1500m at the Skolimowska Memorial.

Katie Nageotte — Nageotte cleared an outdoor personal best 4.80m/15-9 to win the pole vault at Beckum, Germany.

Darrell Hill — Hill won the shot put at the Meeting of the Stars in Warsaw, Poland, with a toss of 21.50m/70-6.5.

English Gardner — In her first race on the track since last July, Gardner won the 100m at Rovereto, Italy, in 11.02.
