Rohrer rounds up USATF Athlete of the Week honors

4/6/2017

INDIANAPOLIS -- Notre Dame sophomore Anna Rohrer (Mishawaka, Indiana) ran a world-leading 31:58.99 to win the 10,000m at the Stanford Invitational, earning USATF Athlete of the Week honors.

In the first 10,000m race of her career, Rohrer stunned the field which included collegians and professionals, setting a new Notre Dame school record in the event. Her time of 31:58.99 shattered two-time Olympian and nine-time All-American Molly Huddle’s time of 32:37.87, trimming 39 seconds off the mark. Rohrer’s performance earned her ACC Women’s Track Performer of the Week.

Rohrer became the third-fastest U.S.-born collegian ever and No. 7 on the all-time NCAA list.

Other notable performances:

  • 18-year-old Quincy Hall (Bakersfield, California), freshman at the College of the Sequoias, ran the third-fastest outdoor 400m of the year with his 45.32 to win at the Stanford Invitational.
  • Jordan Hasay (Arroyo Grande, California) moved to #3 on the all-time U.S. half-marathon list with her finish of 67:55 at the Prague Half Marathon.
  • Maria Michta-Coffey (Nesconset, New York) won the women’s crown at the Pan Am 20 km Race Walk Trials, finishing in 1:32:46.
  • John Nunn (San Diego, California) won the men’s title at the Pan Am 20 km Race Walk Trials, holding off Nick Christie in the race’s final moments to come through the line in 1:27:17.

Now in its 16th year, USATF’s Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on USATF.org. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
