USATF Outdoor Championsips Preview - Multis
INDIANAPOLIS -- The USATF Outdoor Championships return to Sacramento State University as junior multi-events are among the opening competitions Wednesday, June 25 at Hornet Stadium. Senior multis begin Thursday, June 26.
Expected to impress in the junior heptathlon is University of Oregon signee and four-time Arizona high school state champion Ashlee Moore (Chandler, Arizona). Moore comes into the competition owning 2014 season bests of 12.28 in the 100 meters, 1.7m/5-8 in high jump and 5.72m/18-9.5 in long jump.
University of Oregon freshman Mitch Modin (Bend, Oregon) is one to watch among junior men with a decathlon PR of 7,875. At the Oregon Relays, he ran the 100m in 11.07 and finished the 200m at Pac-12 Outdoor Championships in 21.93. Modin finished 13th at NCAA Outdoors.
The reigning 2013 and two-time USA Outdoor heptathlon champion Sharon Day-Monroe (Los Angeles, California) made three times her charm during a landmark 2014 indoor season. Day-Monroe set a new American pentathlon record at USA Indoors with 4,805 points, and she went on to compete for Team USA at IAAF World Indoors, where she finished fourth.
Among the top decathlon contenders is Olympic silver medalist Trey Hardee (Austin, Texas), a two-time World Outdoor gold medalist looking to emerge from a tough 2013 season. Hardee withdrew from last year’s national championships, when he sustained a hamstring injury after the fourth decathlon event.
