Olympians and world record holders kick off indoor season at Dr. Sander Invitational Columbia Challenge


NEW YORK CITY -- At the historic New Balance Track and Field Center at The Armory in New York City, a competitive mix of high school, college and elite athletes will vie for wins at the Dr. Sander Invitational Columbia Challenge, airing live on USATF.TV+ and NBC Sports Gold.

Joe Kovacs leads the field of Olympians in the men’s shot put. Against Jordan Young of Canada and Wu Xiaxing of China, the 2016 Olympic silver medalist looks to start his 2019 indoor season with an impressive win.

Highlighting the women’s 800m is Ajee Wilson the World championship silver medalist and American record holder in the 800m.

High school star, Katelyn Tuohy coming off her second straight Nike Cross Country National Championship title will take on pros Heather Kampf, a four-time USATF Road Mile champion.

In the men’s 1000m, Craig Engels and 1500m World Championships finalist Johnny Gregorek will go up against 1500m 2017 USATF Outdoor Champion Robby Andrews.  

2016 world indoor bronze medalist Erik Sowinski will take on the men’s 600m against 2016 NACAC U23 winner Isaiah Harris (Outdoor 800m).

In the 4xMile relay, HOKA NJ-NY Track Club will look to better their world record time of 16:12 against the Brooks Beasts.
