Nunn, Michta-Coffey lead U.S. Trials entries ahead of 2016 IAAF World Race Walking Team Championships

INDIANAPOLIS -- Three-time Olympian John Nunn and 2012 Olympian Maria Michta-Coffey headline the entries for the U.S. Team Trials ahead of the 2016 IAAF World Race Walking Team Championships. The best walkers in America will take to the Rider Trail in Earth City, Missouri on Sunday, April 3 for a chance to compete for Team USA in Rome, Italy on May 7-8. Previously known as the IAAF World Race Walking Cup, the event has been rebranded as the IAAF World Race Walking Team Championships.

Nunn (Bonsall, California) will compete at the 20 km distance, having already qualified for the 50 km race walk at both the IAAF World Race Walking Championships and the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, winning the U.S. Olympic Team Trials - Race Walk in 4:03:21 on Feb. 21 in Santee, California. Nunn, along with Nick Christie (El Cajon, California) and Michael Mannozzi (Youngstown, Ohio), have already selected themselves to the 50 km team to compete in Rome, courtesy of their sub-4:35 finishes at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in February.

Michta-Coffey (Farmingville, New York) captured her seventh consecutive USATF Indoor title in the women’s 3,000m race walk, besting the field by over 13 seconds in 12:33.75. Michta-Coffey is no stranger to making national teams, having represented the U.S. internationally on 12 occasions. Michta-Coffey will be looking for lucky number 13 in what she hopes will be her third IAAF World Race Walking Championships appearance. Other athletes vying for spots on Team USA are three-time IAAF World Race Walking Cup and two-time IAAF World Championships competitor Miranda Melville (Rush, New York) and Erin Taylor-Talcott (Owego, New York), who captured the 50 km title in Santee in February.

Cameron Haught (Enon, Ohio), 2014 USATF 10 km race walk champion, and Katharine Newhoff (East Islip, New York), two-time defending USATF Race Walking Grand Prix winner, lead the junior entries for Sunday. A full list of entries can be found here.
