9/8/2014 Replays for Great Run Weekend

INDIANAPOLIS -- In case you missed it this weekend, has the replay of both the Puma Great North CityGames and Bupa Great North Run from Newcastle, UK. Read up on the victories from Jenn Suhr and Richard Browne Saturday at the CityGames. The Great North Run proved to be just as exciting, as fan favorite Mo Farah took home the men’s title for the first Great North Run title from a British man in nearly 30 years. Farah finished in a flat 1:00:00.

New York City Marathon adds Goucher and Linden to stacked U.S. field

NEW YORK CITY -- As two of six American women entered with personal-best times under 2:30:00, Kara Goucher and Desiree Linden will lead the deepest American women’s field in New York City Marathon history, including 2004 Olympic bronze medalist and American record-holder Deena Kastor, 2008 Olympian Blake Russell, 2013 USA Marathon champion Annie Bersagel, and 2:28 performer Lauren Kleppin.

The top American men joining Meb Keflezighi and Ryan Vail are the top two men’s finishers from the 2013 USA Marathon Championships: winner Nick Arciniaga and runner-up Josphat Boit. Luke Puskedra, a 2012 Team USA member at the IAAF World Half-Marathon Championships, will make his marathon debut.

USATF remembers Randy Sturgeon

Randy Sturgeon, a beloved coach, masters athlete and the former publisher of National Masters News, passed away Thursday, Sept. 4 at age 62 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. As an athlete,  he competed in his last major meet at the 2010 USATF Masters Outdoor Championships before running a 6:04 mile on his 60th birthday in 2012. Sturgeon coached numerous high school and club teams, including: Del Campo High School, El Camino High School, Cordova High School, Selano Junior High School, Granite Bay High School, Sacramento River City Rebels Running Club, Buffalo Chips, Capital City Flyers, West Valley TC, Christian Runners of (CROSS) Sacramento, Fleet Feet Racing of Sacramento and Golden West Athletic Club.

Justin Gatlin Caps Undefeated Season with Win at Rieti

RIETI, Italy -- Justin Gatlin capped his undefeated summer, taking a win in the men’s 100 meters at the IAAF World Challenge in Rieti, Italy on Sunday. Gatlin crossed in 9.83 to win his 18th race of 2014. The last man to go undefeated for an entire season was Usain Bolt in 2009.

Gabriele Grunewald got some speed work in as she took a runner-up finish in her section of the women’s 800 meters, crossing in 2:02.01. Olympic 1,500m silver medalist Leo Manzano followed suit, turning in a second-place time of 1:46.12 in his section of the men’s 800 meters.

Jessica Young set a new PB in the women’s 100 meters, finishing as the runner-up in her section with a time of 11:13.
