Nellum, Barrett, Brooks, Coburn lead Olympians at NCAA Outdoor Championships
Bryshon Nellum (400m), Brigetta Barrett (high jump), Tia Brooks (shot put) and Emma Coburn (3,000m steeplechase) all claimed individual NCAA outdoor titles last week to lead a large number of 2012 Team USA Olympians at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which concluded Saturday in Eugene, Ore.
Nellum, the University of Southern California senior and London Olympic 4x400m silver medalist, claimed the 400m title in a time of 44.73 before taking home third place honors in the 200m in 20.27.
Barrett, the University of Arizona senior and London Olympic silver medalist, won the high jump with a height of 1.95m/6-4.75. It is the sixth NCAA indoor and outdoor individual title in her career.
Brooks, who has won each NCAA indoor and outdoor title in the women’s shot put since 2011, claimed her sixth NCAA title in that event with a mark of 18.91m/62-0.5.
Coburn, who made the Olympic final in the women’s steeplechase in London and is the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials champion in the event, won the NCAA title in the steeplechase in 9:35.38.
Additionally, Erik Kynard, who won silver in London in the men’s high jump, and Georganne Moline, who competed in London in the 400m hurdles, each placed second in their events in Eugene.
American Milers Club High Performance Series kicks off in Indianapolis
For the tenth straight season, the Indiana Invaders are playing host to the American Milers Club High Performance Series, which kicked off June 8 with the first of three race dates and will continue Wednesday and conclude Saturday.
The American Milers Club Performance Series is designed to target qualifying times for the USA Outdoor Championships and World Outdoor Championships, which will be held later this summer. Competition begins at 9:30 p.m. each evening and is held at Carroll Stadium on the campus of IUPUI.
Competition June 8 featured the 400m, 800m and 1,500m while competition Wednesday will feature the 800m, 1,500m and 3,000m steeplechase and Saturday the 400m, 800m, 1,500m and 5,000m.
