Team USA coaches named for IAAF World Junior Championships

USA Track & Field named five men’s and five women’s coaches for IAAF World Juniors, which take place July 18-22 in Eugene, Oregon. Head women’s coach Dana Boone will oversee sprints and hurdles with assistant coaches Lisa Morgan over distance, Tim Cawly over jumps and multis and Cory Young assisting with throws and multis. The head manager on the women’s side is Kristin Heaston. Thomas Johnson is head coach of the men’s team with assistant coaches David Smith over distance athletes, Norm Tate on jumps and multis and Ty Sevin over throws. Cliff McKenzie will serve as men’s head manager.

Hall of Fame coach Bob Larsen receives Pathfinder Award

A member of the 2013 USA Track & Field Hall of Fame class, coach Bob Larsen will receive the Pathfinder Award at the 21st Village Runner Fourth of July 5 km, presented by UCLA Health Systems, in Redondo Beach, California.

Larsen’s notoriety comes in large part from the significant role he played in revamping U.S. distance running. He coached the UCLA men’s track & field team to consecutive NCAA Outdoor titles in 1987 and 1988 and was selected as Team USA distance coach for the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, where he coached Meb Keflezighi to a silver medal in the marathon. Larsen and Keflezighi later combined for the top finish in the 2009 New York City Marathon and most recently the 2014 Boston Marathon.

The Pathfinder Award is presented annually to an individual in the distance running or member track and field community, who has blazed his or her own path in a groundbreaking fashion.
