Hall of Fame coach Bob Larsen receives Pathfinder Award
A member of the 2013 USA Track & Field Hall of Fame class, coach Bob Larsen will receive the Pathfinder Award at the 21st Village Runner Fourth of July 5 km, presented by UCLA Health Systems, in Redondo Beach, California.
Larsen’s notoriety comes in large part from the significant role he played in revamping U.S. distance running. He coached the UCLA men’s track & field team to consecutive NCAA Outdoor titles in 1987 and 1988 and was selected as Team USA distance coach for the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, where he coached Meb Keflezighi to a silver medal in the marathon. Larsen and Keflezighi later combined for the top finish in the 2009 New York City Marathon and most recently the 2014 Boston Marathon.
The Pathfinder Award is presented annually to an individual in the distance running or member track and field community, who has blazed his or her own path in a groundbreaking fashion.
