US Olympic World Record Holder Kevin Young to Highlight the 2014 Belgrade Marathon

World record holder and Olympic champion Kevin Young will serve as VIP Promoter of the 27th Belgrade Marathon on April 27. Young is the international goodwill ambassador to the Serbian capital and will hold a public clinic for hopeful young stars.

His world 400-meter world record of 46.78 still stands from the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games. Young also won the IAAF World Championships in 1993.

Upon his arrival in Belgrade, Young will meet with heads of government and hopes to meet the young Emir Bekrić, who won bronze at the 2013 IAAF World Championships in Moscow. Bekrić is the Serbian national record holder (48.05) and has acknowledged Young as is his idol.

Young, who never officially announced his retirement, has spent much of his time to promote the sport of track & field and continues encouraging young athletes. He was inducted into the United States Track & Field Hall of Fame in 2006.
