Multi events and race walk open USATF National Youth Outdoor Championships


LISLE, Illinois -- Talented young athletes, aged 7-18, are taking center stage at Benedictine University for USATF National Youth Outdoor Championships, June 26-30, in Lisle, Illinois. The five-day meet began with day 1 of multi events and finals in the 2000m steeplechase, hammer throw and race walk.

Hayley Click (Lake Forest, Illinois) of Waukegan Invaders dominated the women’s 17-18 2000m steeplechase, finishing in in 7:42.65 to second place’s 8:07.93. The Michigan recruit also won the girls’ 15-16 division in 2014.


In the boys’ 9-10 1500m race walk, winner Ahris Mayorga (San Bernardino, California) of So Cal Roadrunners set a new PR by nearly 15 seconds with his time of 8:13.10. Before today, his best time came from a second place finish at USATF Southern California Association Junior Olympic Championships earlier in June.


Pentathletes Kaitlin Kolb (Wellesley, Massachusetts) and Kiana Siefert (Noblesville, Indiana) went back and forth in the girls’ 13-14 multi-event, with Kolb winning the shot put and 100m hurdles, and Siefert claiming the high jump and long jump. Ultimately, Siefert prevailed 2645 points to Kolb’s 2541 to take home the national title.


In the 15-16 hammer throw, Joseph Ryan (Carmichael, California) clinched the win in his first throw of 49.31/161-09. Girls’ winner Abby Venglass (Rancho Cucamonga, California) beat her opponents by nearly five meters with a best distance of 38.22m/125-05.
