Midway through multis and two throws titles at USATF Junior Championships

EUGENE --  Sunshine and 90-degree temperatures provided the perfect climate as two USATF Junior Champions were crowned on Thursday at Historic Hayward Field on the University of Oregon campus.
 
Curtis Thompson earned the the day’s first national title, throwing 72.34m/237-4 in men’s javelin as he surpassed the second-place finisher by more than 13 feet.
 
Josephine Natrasevschi saved her best for last to win the women’s discus crown with a mark of 53.52m/175-7, defeating an early standard set by runner-up Lloydricia Cameron. Cameron opened the competition, throwing 52.01m/170-7 to lead the field through five rounds before Natrasevschi’s clutch final throw won it all.   
 
After the first day of junior multi-events, Kaylee Hinton leads heptathlon with 3176 points. Hinton, who crossed the line seventh in day’s  first event, the 100-meter hurdles, but she improved in her next event to earn the second-best clearance in high jump (1.67m/5-5.75). She finished the day with the best 200m time, running a windy 24.58 and gaining a lead of 77 points heading into Day 2.
 
Midway through decathlon, World Junior competitor Harrison Williams has a 338-point lead with the second-best marks in long jump (7.05m/23-1.75) and shot put (7.05m/23-1.75) and third in high jump (1.97m/6-5.5).
