Michta-Coffey surpasses forty USATF titles following USATF 5k Race Walk Championships

FRAMINGHAM, Massachusetts -- Veterans showed their consistency in the USATF 5k Race Walk Championships held in Framingham, Massachusetts on June 10, 2018.

Maria Michta-Coffey (Stony Brook, New York) continued to showcase her dominance and etch her name further in the record books after this weekend’s performance. Her time of 22:22 won the two-time Olympian her 41st national title. Following behind Michta-Coffey was her Walk USA teammate Lauren Harris (Farmingville, New York), a college freshman, finishing in 25:07. Harris is the current indoor record holder in the mile race walk, and was the first woman to break the 7-minute barrier both indoors and outdoors. Erin Taylor Talcott (Portland, Oregon) of Shore Athletics rounded out the top three with a solid 25:26 finish.

On the men’s side, Q Elite Track Club’s John Cody Risch (Williamston, Michigan) successfully defended his U.S. title finishing in 21:36, a time 2:65 faster than the rest of the field. Risch has represented the U.S on three separate occasions; this year in China at the IAAF World Race Walking Team Championships, in the 2016 World Cup (Italy) and at the 2015 Chile Pan-Am cup. He has been consistently on the rise after narrowly missing the Olympic team in 2016 and undergoing shoulder surgery the same year. Three-time USATF Masters Race Walker of the Year (‘13,’15,’16) David Swarts (Jackson, Michigan) finished second, clocking a time of 24:01. Rounding out the top three was Canadian Yvan Bechard.
