McLaughlin wins USATF Athlete of the Week

Sydney McLaughlin (Dunellen, New Jersey) ran the second-fastest U.S. junior times ever in the 200 meters and 400m at the Florida Relays to earn her second USATF Athlete of the Week award of 2018.

McLaughlin, a 2016 Olympian in the 400m hurdles as a high schooler, clocked 22.39 to win the 200m, which moved her to No. 4 on the all-time world junior list, and added a 50.07 win in the 400m. Her one-lap time is the second-fastest ever by a collegian, and is fifth on the all-time world junior list. For good measure, McLaughlin turned in a 49.45 relay leg on Kentucky’s 4x400m that won in 3:26.92.

Other notable performances from the weekend:

Tori Franklin — Franklin had a huge PR in the triple jump at the Texas Relays, winning with a 14.48m/47-6.25 leap that moved her to No. 2 on the all-time U.S. list.

Maura Fiamoncini — The Bucknell freshman moved to second on the all-time U.S. junior javelin list with her 56.21/184-5 throw at Susquehanna’s Taylor Invitational.

Anthony Schwartz — Schwartz, a senior at Plantation’s American Heritage HS in Florida, ran a U.S.-leading 10.16 for 100m to win at the Florida Relays, and also helped his team to a 40.42 4x100m relay win.

Jenn Suhr — Suhr took over the 2018 world outdoor lead in the women’s pole vault with a 4.83m/15-10 clearance at the Texas Relays.

Elijah Hall — Houston’s super-sprinter Hall won the 200m at the Texas Relays in a U.S.-leading 20.11 and paced the Cougars to victories in the 4x100 and 4x200.
