Masters records and age-graded performances from .US National 12K

INDIANAPOLIS -- Masters athletes shined once again at the .US National 12K, where several top performers set new age-group records and registered impressive age-graded performances.
 
Overall Masters women’s champion Perry Shoemaker had a W40-44 age-graded performance of 90.19 percent to finish 15th among all masters and first among masters women. Jen Rhines (Boston, Massachusetts), finished middle of the pack in the elite women’s race and set a new W40-44 record of 40:31 to lower Colleen DeReuck’s 40:48 set in 2004.
 
Olympic marathon champion Joan Benoit Samuelson (Freeport, Maine) finished Sunday’s event in 46:27, crossing almost two minutes faster than the W55-59 age-group record of 48:22 set by Christine Kennedy in 2010. Samuelson age-graded at 97.89 percent.
 
Kathy Martin (Northport, New York) set the event's highest age-graded performance at 101.21 percent and finished in 48:54 to improve the 48:59 record she set in 2013. Martin also set a new 8K record during the race, clocking 32:41 to better the 32:43 set by Sabra Harvey in 2011.
 
Heidi Moebius (Lancaster, Pennsylvania) performed at 94.09 percent and finished in 1:05:01 among the W75-79 age group. Alice Franks (Rockville, Maryland) finished in 57:04, age-grading at 90.72 percent among W65-69 athletes.
 
On the men’s side, Tom McCormack (Jonesborough, Tennessee) overtook his 2013 record of 43:04 with a 2014 finish in 42:55. He age-graded at 94.99 percent to lead a charge of seven men age-grading above 90 percent.
 
The second highest age-graded performance went to M70-74 athlete Doug Goodhue (Milford, Michigan), who achieved 93.63 percent after finishing in 48:33 to improve on his 2013 time of 49:20. Ken Youngers (Tucker, Georgia) age-graded at 92.80 percent among M55-59 athletes and Rick Becker’s (Selah, Washington) 91.25 rounded out the top four in age-grading.
