MLS joins the fray as Galaxy’s Jordan enters Super 60

NEW YORK – Among the quickest players in Major League Soccer, Bryan Jordan of the L.A. Galaxy will complete a full field for the Super 60 II at the 104th Millrose Games.
Launched in 2010, the Super 60 II is a 60-meter proving ground for stars to showcase the universal component of speed in all sports, and to help determine which sport has the most potent combination of power, speed and acceleration.
Jordan faces a field that includes Anthony Dorsett, Jr. and Jacoby Jones of the NFL – both former track athletes; Jay Williams of the NBA; Junior Spivey of MLB and Olympic bobsled gold medalist Steve Mesler, a former decathlete.
The 104th Millrose Games will be contested Friday, January 28, 2011 at Madison Square Garden. The first event of USA Track & Field’s Visa Championship Series, the Millrose Games will be televised live from 8-10 p.m. Eastern Time on ESPN2.
Speed on the pitch
A graduate of Oregon State, the 25-year-old Jordan is heralded for his speed and is described on the MLS website as “one of the LA Galaxy's more athletic players, a speedy, 5-foot-8, 155-pounder who is known for his quick forays into opposing territory.” He is a “quick striker” … but is MLS quick fast enough for the Super 60 II? Friday’s race will answer that question.
Jordan went to Temple City High School in California, where he set a school record for goals in a season. He graduated from Oregon State in 2006 and played with the USL’s San Fernando Valley Quakes (Premier Development League) and Portland Timers (First Division) before joining the Galaxy in 2008. He and teammate Landon Donovan are considered the fastest men on the Galaxy roster.
