Lewis-Smallwood sets American Record, Team USA edges out France

INDIANAPOLIS — Gia Lewis-Smallwood led the Team USA squad in a two-point victory over France at the 2014 edition of Decanation held in Angers, France, yesterday.
Lewis-Smallwood set the American record in the women's discus on her third toss, launching the discus 69.17m/226-11, bettering the previous mark of 67.74m/222-3 set by Stephanie Brown-Trafton on May 7, 2012 in  Wailuku, Hawaii.
Other winners for the U.S. were Francena McCorory who finished in 50.62 in the 400 meters; Kristi Castlin (12.74) in the women’s 100mH; Mike Rodgers (10.14) Men’s 100m; Reese Hoffa (20.45) men’s shot put.
Team USA has dominated the event, winning the past seven consecutive contests and eight of the last 10 since the event began in 2005.
