Lesley Hinz’s 800m record at Masters Indoors earns her USATF Athlete of the Week


Lesley Hinz (Atlanta, Georgia) broke the women’s age 60-64 world indoor record in the 800 meters at the USATF Masters Indoor Championships at Landover, Maryland, to earn USATF Athlete of the Week.

Hinz won by 22 seconds in 2:36.57 to break the previous WR of 2:37.67, set in 2012 by Britain’s Agnes Hitchmough. She also chopped more than three seconds off Kathy Martin’s existing American record. Hinz opened the meet with a dominant victory in the 400m, clocking 69.47 to win by almost seven seconds.

Other notable performances from the weekend:

Derek Pye — Pye broke one of the older masters records on the books with his 8.24 for the 60m hurdles at Landover. The previous men’s 50-54 record was 8.47.

Libby James — James shattered the American women’s 80-84 record at the USATF Masters 8K Road Championship in Virginia Beach, running 42:34 to knock down the existing record of 52:00, set by Anne Clarke in 1991.

Nat Larson — Larson had the top age-graded performance for the men at the USATF Masters 8K Road Championships, winning the 55-59 division in 26:51.

Ben True — True made his half marathon debut a memorable one, winning the United Airlines NYC Half in 62:39.
