Lawson nabs USATF Athlete of the Week following first Diamond League victory

INDIANAPOLIS -- Olympian Jarrion Lawson continued his strong summer, earning USATF Athlete of the Week honors following his first Diamond League meeting victory on Sunday, August 20 in Birmingham, England.


The 2017 IAAF World Championships silver medalist, Lawson (Texarkana, Texas) qualified for his first Diamond League final with the victory, leaping 8.19m/26-10.50 to easily beat the rest of the field at the Müller Grand Prix Birmingham. Lawson beat a field that included


Lawson is the 2017 USATF Outdoors champion in the men’s long jump and also earned silver with the Team USATF men’s 4x200m relay at the IAAF World Relays in May.


Other notable performances:

Taylor Ewart — Helped Team USATF to victory over Canada at the 29th USA vs. Canada Junior Race Walking Match in Rome, Georgia. Ewart clocked 24:32 in the junior women’s 5 km walk, over a minute ahead of teammate Lauren Harris in second (25:27).

Cameron Haught The top men’s finisher for Team USATF at the 29th USA vs. Canada Junior Race Walking Match in Rome, Georgia, Haught turned in a silver medal finish with his 49:56 in the junior men’s 10 km walk.

Aries Merritt The 2012 Olympic champion won the men’s 110-meter hurdles Sunday at the Müller Grand Prix Birmingham in Birmingham, England, crossing in 13.29.
