Keturah Orji named USATF Athlete of the Week after breaking triple jump American indoor record

INDIANAPOLIS -- At the 2017 SEC Indoor Championships hosted by Vanderbilt University, Rio 2016 Olympian Keturah Orji (Mount Olive, New Jersey) broke the collegiate and American record in the women’s triple jump. The University of Georgia junior soared 14.32m/46-11.75 on her opening attempt in the triple jump and matched that mark on her second try to establish American and collegiate records in the event.

Three of Orji’s six jumps took over the top three spots on the collegiate all-time list and she now owns five total marks in the top 10. Orji won her fifth straight SEC title and is en route to another NCAA crown, having won the last three in a row. Orji, who finished fourth at the Rio Olympic Games, now owns the American and collegiate records both indoors and outdoors.
