Kendra Harrison’s record-equaling 60m hurdles earns her USATF Athlete of the Week


Kendra Harrison (Clayton, North Carolina) tied the American record in the 60m hurdles at the Clemson Tiger Paw Invitational to earn USATF Athlete of the Week.


Harrison, the world record holder in the 100m hurdles outdoors, flew over the barriers at Clemson to finish in 7.72, equaling the AR set by Lolo Jones at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Doha in 2010. Her time moved her into a tie for third-fastest performer in world history.

Other notable performances:

Michael Norman — Norman ran 45.00 to win the open 400m at Clemson, and then anchored USC’s 4x400 to a 3:01.98, a collegiate record and the second-fastest time ever recorded indoors. Norman’s 400 makes him the fifth-fastest performer in collegiate history.

Grant Holloway — Holloway set a collegiate record in the 60m hurdles at Clemson, zipping to a 7.42 to take down the old CR of 7.45, set in 2015 by Omar McLeod of Arkansas. Holloway also ran the fastest leg on Florida’s 4x400 that clocked 3:02.23, the second-fastest time in collegiate history.

Maggie Ewen — The Arizona State senior threw the shot put 19.20m/63-0 at the Kirby Elite meet in Albuquerque to become the third-best indoor performer in collegiate history.

Donavan Brazier — Brazier narrowly missed the American record in the men’s 800m, winning the New Balance GP at Boston in 1:45.11.

Elinor Purrier — Purrier became the No. 2 all-time indoor collegiate miler at the Boston U. Hemery Valentine Invitational, running 4:26.55. The New Hampshire senior also claimed the No. 3 spot on the all-time collegiate 1500m list en route at 4:10.21.

Now in its 17th year, USATF’s Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
