Jeff Henderson’s back-to-back RunJumpThrows earn Athlete of the Week

9/30/2016

INDIANAPOLIS – Gold medalist Jeff Henderson has helped reach over 1500 students in the past ten days, thanks to his participation in consecutive RunJumpThrow experiences in Los Angeles and the Washington, D.C. metro area.

As part of USATF’s Victory Tour, Henderson (McAlmont, Arkansas) is one of several 2016 Olympic medalists to visit schools and teach kids the importance of physical activity. At each RunJumpThrow children learn foundational track and field skills at interactive exercise stations.

"If we can show these kids how to do [track and field] at a young age and have fun with it now, they'll definitely have fun when they're older,” Jeff said. “I didn't have this when I came up but if I did have this, who knows where I'd be now."

On Friday in Arlington, Virginia, Jeff taught kids in grades 1-4 how to jump, demonstrating the basics of his gold medal-winning event. He was joined by fellow Olympians Michelle Carter and Natasha Hastings.

Now in its 15th year, USATF’s Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on USATF.org. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
