Harvey Lewis earns USATF Athlete of the Week after 24-Hour win


Ultra runner Harvey Lewis, III (Cincinnati, Ohio) won the USATF 24-Hour Championship in Cleveland, Ohio, Sunday to earn his first USATF Athlete of the Week award.


Lewis, 41, covered 142.034 miles in the event that ran from noon on Saturday to noon on Sunday at Edgewater Park. He finished nearly two miles ahead of his nearest challenger. Tara Langdon was the top female finisher with 131.448 miles to her credit.

Other notable performances:

  • Ben Blankenship — won the second Great Alaska Mile series race in Kodiak in 3:57.85, the fastest mile time ever run in Alaska.

  • Sara Hall — Hall moved to No. 9 on the U.S. all-time half marathon list with her 69:37 to place 10th at Copenhagen in a race where five women broke the previous course record.

  • Nat Larson — Larson broke the Men's 55-59 American Record at the USATF-NE 5K Championship with a 15:54, 13 seconds under the existing record.

  • Galen Rupp — Rupp won the Rock ’n’ Roll Philly Half Marathon in 62:18 in his final race before the Chicago Marathon in October.
